Post image for the first book club

Tonight is the night, our very first, very unofficial, book club!  Our, as in…us.  A group of girls that connected in the strangest of ways…you’ll never believe it: through our blogs.  Weird, huh…that, like, never happens these days. ; )

Anyway, we’re all expats, we all live in Amsterdam, and we all blog.  Therefore, we are became friends.
Ok, in reality, we did find each other online…but we’re friends because these.girls.are.awesome.

Insert token blog-positivity: I never imagined becoming part of such a perfect group of friends so quickly.  We are always laughing & making plans for our next meetup before leaving the current one, the best kind of get-togethers.

And we drink wine {or beer, or cocktails} too, did I mention that?  This might actually be the primary focus of our evening, who knows.  It’s our book club wecandowhatwewant.

1.  Are you in a bookclub?
2.  Do you have any tips for bookclub success…like “rules” or formats?
3. Wanna join us? If you live in the NL & can meet once a month in Amsterdam, shoot me an email.
4. Wanna join us, but don’t live in the NL? I’m working on an online bookclub project, shoot me an email.

Yay for book clubs.

I’m currently in one now. We rotate through houses and we all bring food and wine and our kindles. We don’t stay on topic very well and the discussion really depends on the book but it’s a fun night!

Before I moved to Africa I was in another book club and we were a bit more productive (in terms of actually talking about the book.) The host did a brief search of discussion questions in case we were struggling for topics and I found that helped.

I recently finished reading “Defending Jacob” which was excellent. It’s about a murder and trial in Newton, MA. It’s a quick read and readily lends itself to plenty of discussion. Have fun tonight!
