Post image for madrid, take three: things {food, obviously}

What’s the best part of traveling somewhere new?  This could be topic of debate, but sorry, it’s not.

It’s the food + drink.

On Saturday we wandered around the city, stopping in at the famous market which was overly touristy & a bit overpriced, but it set the stage for some great photos.  There was a wide array of foods, ranging from fruits & veggies to meats & fish to chocolates & candies to breads & cheeses, and everything in between.

As I waited for my “everything” smoothie to be made, I picked out a straw.  Ok, not really she just shoved one in my drink, but I would have picked blue.  Probably because there were the least amount of blue straws left, like it was the coveted color or something.  {I have to be like everyone else, obviously.}

When she asked me what kind of smoothie I wanted, I told her I wanted everything.  It’s not nice to pick favorites, you know.

There was also an assortment of deliciousness available at practically every vendor.

On Friday night after we grabbed the keys to the apartment we rented for the weekend, we wandered down the street & found the perfect spot for dinner.  Unfortunately we abruptly left the bar once I started to feel really bad {I had quite the cold}, but not before we had just one beer.  Look at this baby glass, it was just too cute to not order a beer!  I had to!

I’ll leave you with this last picture, a plate of jambon…literally melt in your mouth goodness.

Madrid, I will be back again someday, that’s for sure.

Post image for madrid, take two: places

Even though I was feeling under the weather, it was good to get away from the grayness of Amsterdam for the weekend.

In Madrid, the sun was shining & the skies were blue.  We didn’t have high expectations for the weekend, other than eating + drinking + soaking up our Spanish surroundings.

I decided not to bring my DSLR on this trip, as I was leaving straight from my office, it was a quick trip, and I was traveling with two other bloggers.  {Who did, in fact, bring their fancy cameras as I had anticipated…now to just get a couple of those pictures cough::cough}.

Plus, I wanted to try out my new iPhone lenses.  I received these as a Christmas gift, and it took until now to test them out: most iPhone cases do not have a wide enough opening for the magnet, so I finally stopped trying to find a new case that would work and just used scissors to cut a wider opening on my current one instead – worked perfectly.}

Magnets, the lenses use magnets to stay in place, which translates into this product is really easy to use.  One magnet you permanently affix around the lens of your iphone, and then each lens strongly sticks to your phone during use.

So, all of my Madrid pictures from this trip were taken with my iPhone.

Things I liked:
+ the quality of the pictures {no color modification has been done}
+ not carrying around a bulky camera
+ not worrying about the safety of camera throughout the day {is the lens cap on, where is the lens cap by the way, will someone steal my camera from under my coat sitting on this chair, etc}
+ having a fisheye lens at my fingertips, literally.

Things I didn’t like:
+ Not having the ability to zoom.  One of the lens is a 2x telephoto, but it isn’t enough.  I prefer to capture an image the way I like it in the moment, versus cropping & editing after the fact.
+ The extra settings.  Let’s be serious, a DSLR is a powerful tool if you know how to use it, which just can’t be beat by point & shoots.  {I am still learning how to use all this powerfulness…my pictures are far from fabulous.  Sometimes I just get lucky.}
+ the battery.  Constantly using camera = draining a battery within 8 hours.  When you are out sightseeing for an entire day & evening, the battery life can be limiting.  {I take a lot of pictures people.}

Overall, I was impressed.  Not necessarily the best photos ever, but how many pictures end up in frames on the wall?  Probably less than 1%, let’s be serious.  In my mind, these lens were a great gift, I highly recommend them, and plan on putting them to good use on a regular basis.

Post image for thursday post & a birthday

You can tell this travel book was well loved. Passed to us from a very dear friend the FreeBird, we cannot wait to put this baby to good use this weekend!  We are off to Madrid & plan to make the most of our 48 hour jaunt in {more} Southern {than we are} Europe.

I’m not sure about PAB, who believes Amsterdam is already “spring like”…but I for one am hoping for warmer temps.

TO BE FAIR it has been much, much warmer here the past couple of days.

I’m looking forward to ripping out the Madrid pages {that so sounds intense} and packing them in my carry-on.
Any good recommendations?  Lily already sent me over to her blog to read a few past posts on her Madrid adventures.

OH and I cannot forget to give a very long distance, very cheerful, & very virtual birthday hug to PAB’s dad.  I hope you have a wonderful day.

Before having our Thanksgiving dinner in Barcelona, we walked all around Park Guell, which provides the best panoramic view of the city.   You definitely have to work up a sweat to get up to the top, which was a nice way to be able to enjoy our dinner later that evening!  And yes…there are [...]

A Spanish architect with a modern style, Antonio Gaudi certainly left his mark in Barcelona.  Born in 1852, Gaudi’s work reflected his life passions {architecture, nature, religion, and his love of the Catalonia region of Spain} that have since been recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, since his death in 1926. Arguably his most famous [...]

Before heading to our Thanksgiving dinner, we walked around Park Guell, made famous in part by architect Antonio Gaudi.  Much more on him next week…until then, a couple quick snaps:
